Methodology

Matching: every entry of a live source is matched to an OpenStreetMap (OSM) car park by city and name. Ambiguous names are not matched; those entries count as “without a reliable match” and are not shown. Location, capacity and rates come from OSM.

Live: the source was fetched successfully within the last 15 minutes.

Cached: the source is not answering right now. We show the last values fetched successfully (at most 6 hours old) with their timestamp. Measurements older than 24 hours show no occupancy status.

No occupancy data: no source delivers values for this car park. This applies to most of the roughly 700 car parks listed, including all of those in Geneva, Lausanne and Winterthur.

Sources and rights: occupancy data comes from the parking guidance systems and open data of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (source: Kanton Basel-Stadt, data.bs.ch), the City of Zurich (traffic management), Bern Parking, the Lucerne guidance system (PLS), the City of St. Gallen and the City of Winterthur. Locations and capacities are based on OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL), charging stations on the register of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). The rights to the data belong to the respective data providers.

Which cities have live occupancy on Parking Swiss?

Basel, Zurich, Bern, Lucerne and St. Gallen, whose parking guidance systems publish open data. The table above shows the current state of each source.

Why is there no live data for Geneva?

The real-time interface of SITG Geneva (INFOMOB_PARKING_TEMPS_REEL) currently answers every query with an error. We found no other open real-time source for Geneva, so Geneva car parks are shown with map and reference data only.

How current are the free spaces?

Live values are at most 15 minutes old. If a source does not answer, we show the last values with their timestamp and do not label them as live.

Where do locations and rates come from?

From OpenStreetMap. Rates are shown only where they are recorded there; the notice on site is binding.
